How the HOA Approval Process Works

shutterstock_62925796Are you planning to do improvements to your home that include a deck, gazebo, sunroom, porch or patio? Be prepared for the paperwork that your contractor will be asking you to sign off on. Many homeowners are taken by surprise when presented with complicated county permits and HOA applications and many projects take much longer to complete due to improperly submitted paperwork. At Distinctive Deck Designs, we believe the intricate legal terms and contractor jargon filling the many pages of paperwork required should not be a hindrance for homeowners looking to improve their outdoor living space. We can handle all of the paperwork on your behalf, completing it correctly and improving the speed of your approval process. Our years of experience in outdoor contracting allow you to relax in your renovated outdoor space while we take care of the tedium of paperwork.

County and HOA documents can take several weeks to review and receive feedback. Sometimes this process involves revisions and resubmissions of your project for approval. If you are anticipating a spring unveiling of your updated or newly built outdoor space, the time to act is now!

If you are unfamiliar with our HOA package, it includes the following:

  • Initial and final drawings for the new space and its details
  • Color visualizer displaying decking and railing colors (if a deck or structure is going to be built)
  • Photos of any pavers chosen (specific to patio/porch/walkway design)
  • Copy of their survey plat, which is provided by the homeowner, with the new project drawn to scale in order to visually show the new project’s location
  • HOA cover letter detailing the project

The pricing for this service can vary from project to project because every project is unique and has different needs. If you do not reside in a HOA community, then city and/or county approval is all that is necessary to move forward with the project. However, each HOA has different rules for colors, exterior home improvements and various other improvements. If the HOA is particularly picky, you may experience a delay of completion as we work to ensure your project is within regulations from both the Home Owner’s Association and regional legal codes.

You do not have to feel like you are drowning in paperwork and will never see the end result. Your dream patio, porch or deck is within reach, and the deck contractors of Distinctive Deck Designs can help you get to your luxurious unveiling! Get started today!
